TERMS AND CONDITIONS
COMPETITION DETAILS
(1) The following Terms and Conditions provide guidelines on how to enter and the prizes for the 2023 World Environment Day competition (Competition).
(2) The Competition period is open from noon AEST on 5 June and closes at Midnight AEST Friday 1 September 2023 (Competition Period).
(3) The Competition is being run by Jenny Ware MP, Member for Hughes (Competition Organiser)
for students enrolled in schools in the Federal Electorate of Hughes.
(4) The Competition is a game of skill.
2. ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER THE COMPETITION
The Competition is open to school students enrolled in years 5 and 6 and years 7 and 8 from all schools in the Federal Electorate of Hughes. These schools are specified in the Schedule (Eligible Entrants).
Entrants must complete the Competition entry form which includes:
A declaration from the student’s parent, career or legal guardian; and
A declaration from the eligible entrant (student) confirming that their entry to the competition is original work and written without the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Competition Organiser may exclude an entry from the Competition if it reasonably considers that:
third party intellectual property rights may exist in that entry;
the Entrant has not complied with clause 3(5); or
the Entrant has otherwise not complied with these Terms and Conditions.
3. HOW TO ENTER THE COMPETITION
To enter the Competition, an Eligible Entrant must, during the Competition Period complete and submit an entry to the Competition by submitting speech of a maximum of 250 words.
Entries must be submitted to online via Google Forms https://forms.gle/jRUXHswuR6EtVqyz6, via email to Jenny.Ware.MP@aph.gov.au or delivered to PO Box 1014, Sutherland NSW 1499
An Eligible Entrant who submits a valid entry by following the process set out in clause 3(1), will be an “Entrant”.
Each Eligible Entrant may only submit one (1) entry.
Entries received outside of the Competition Period (noon June 5 - midnight 1 September 2023) will be ineligible for entry.
An Entrant must not submit any entry:
for which a third party holds the intellectual property rights where you have not obtained all necessary consents to use the material for the purpose of the Competition;
That would cause or could likely cause offence, inconvenience or hurt to anyone or individual organisation including content that is discriminatory, defamatory, distasteful or a breach of confidentiality or privacy.
That promotes specific commercial or business interests including naming brands or products.
That is political or partisan in nature.
THE PRIZE FOR WINNERS AND RUNNERS UP
The Competition organiser is offering Entrants the chance to win one (1) of xxxx () prizes:
for the winning two (2) entrants (one winner per age category):
The winning entrant’s speech will be read out by Jenny Ware MP in Federal Parliament and the speech credited to the winning entrant, and

for each of the XXX (X) runner up entrants (xx in each age category) :
a World Environment Day 2023 Competition student prize pack valued at $xxx
Prizes cannot be taken as cash, nor can winners exchange or transfer a prize.
A Prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied.
5. HOW TO WIN AND THE JUDGING PROCESS
All valid entries in the Competition will be judged between 5 June 2023 date and 1 September 2023.
An independent judging panel, appointed by Jenny Ware MP will select two winners (one from each age category) and 4 runners up (2 from each age category).
The independent judging panel will judge the winners based on which Entrants have submitted the most original, thoughtful and coherent answers to the two competition questions, they are:
What is your best idea or solution for Beating Plastic Pollution? and,
Why do you think protecting the environment is important?
Decisions by the judging panel are final, entrants do not have the right to any appeal process.
The Competition Organiser will inform the Competition winners and runners up by no later than XXX date.
Should a winner not be contactable abs acknowledge their win within (3) business days of being contacted by the Competition Organiser then another winner may be selected.
6. PRIVACY AND COPYRIGHT
By entering this Competition, each Entrant is taken to consent to the Competition Organiser using the Entrant’s (and their parent(s) or legal guardian(s)) personal information to administer the Competition, including disclosing the Entrant’s personal information to organisations that assist the Competition Organiser with administering and judging of the Competition.
The Competition Organiser will not use entrant’s materials without crediting the entrant.
By entering the Competition, all Entrants are taken to consent to the contents of their entry, their names, school name and year group being displayed along with their submission in promotional materials (including but not limited to media releases, social media, website, newsletters) by the Competition Organiser.
9. NO LIABILITY
Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, the Competition Organiser, its employees, related entities and associated agencies will not be liable for any misadventure, accident, injury, lost or misdirected main, loss (including but not limited to consequential loss), technological difficulties or claim that may occur while participating in the competition.
10. VARIATIONS
The Competition Organiser reserves the right at its sole discretion to modify, suspend or terminate all or part of the Competition, or disqualify and prohibit further participation in this Competition.
This includes cancelling, postponing, repeating or modifying the Competition should it be compromised by a virus, hacker or other causes beyond the reasonable control of the Competition Organiser.
The Competition Organiser reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions from time-to-time in its sole discretion for administrative reasons or to ensure efficient operation of the Competition. Any amendments to these terms and conditions will be posted on the Competition Organiser’s web page at [INSERT]
11. MISCELLANEOUS
The laws of New South Wales apply to the Competition to the exclusion of any other law. Entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
Failure by the Promoter to enforce any one of these Terms and Conditions in any instance(s) will not give rise to any claim or right of action by any Entrant or Prize Winner or other person.
