Hughes Federal Electorate

The Hughes Federal Electorate is home to some of Australia’s innovative businesses, community-oriented organisations and the most beautiful scenery our country has to offer.

During the 2022 Federal Election campaign and now as the Member for Hughes, I have had the privilege of visiting a number of modern businesses operating in the national business landscape. I’ve seen firsthand the enterprising efforts of the sharp minds within Hughes, vying to make our community and our nation the best place to live, work and recreate. I am committed to reducing bureaucracy and to enabling small and family businesses by minimising the tax burden to reinvest into their business and our community. Notably, Australia’s powerhouse for nuclear medicine, ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) is situated in Lucas Heights and possesses some of our country’s finest, most advanced scientists, delivering world-leading nuclear medicine and research to Australia. Our Electorate is also home to the Holsworthy Military Barracks, one of Australia’s major defence establishments.

Hughes is home to an abundance of vibrant community groups. From RSL Sub-Branches to football clubs, Hughes has it all and I am immensely proud of the many tireless volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to their cause. The Hughes Electorate Office has a supply of Australian flags to give to organisations that would like to display our national flag. Please contact or visit my office for more information.

Finally: The landscape of Hughes… Where do I start? Hughes boasts Australia’s first (and arguably best) national park, the Royal National Park, which works its way from Loftus and Bundeena in the north to Otford in the south. This national treasure is something we can all enjoy. Outside of the Royal National Park, the wonderous Georges River snakes its way from the Pacific Ocean beginning in our electorate at Oyster Bay along to Voyager Point. The views along the river at places like Illawong, Alfords Point and Pleasure Point are world class! Of course, we cannot forget the Woronora River in the south of the Hughes electorate.

The Hughes Electorate includes: Waterfall, Heathcote, Bundeena, Maianbar, Royal National Park, Grays Point, Engadine, Yarrawarrah, Loftus, Lucas Heights, Kirrawee, Woronora Heights, Sutherland, Barden Ridge, Woronora, Bangor, Jannali, Kareela, Bonnet Bay, Menai, Como, Oyster Bay, Illawong, Alfords Point, Sandy Point, Pleasure Point, Holsworthy, Wattle Grove, Voyager Point, Hammondville and Moorebank.
